From Theory to Practice: Embodying Internal Family Systems in Your Personal and Professional Life
From Theory to Practice: Embodying Internal Family Systems in Your Personal and Professional Life
Let me offer some background and context…
For the past five years, I’ve dedicated myself to deepening my practice and integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS) into my work. I’ve completed an IFS Introduction, Level I, and Level II training with IFS UK, as well as a course in IFS Supervision and Consultation. My journey with IFS has been transformative, both personally and professionally, and I am passionate about sharing this powerful approach with therapists and helping professionals, who are committed to their own personal development and growth.
As a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor with over 20 years’ experience working with clients and other therapists, I believe that theory is only powerful when it is lived and embodied. It’s not just about understanding concepts—it’s about integrating those ideas into ourselves first. Only then can we truly use them to guide and support others.
In my practice, I emphasize the importance of personal growth and self-awareness for therapists. Theory and techniques are invaluable tools, but they are most effective when we, as therapists, allow ourselves to experience them first. When we are grounded in our own healing, we can show up more authentically and powerfully for those we serve.
I believe that theory is most effective when it is embodied and integrated into our own lives first. As therapists, the tools we use are most powerful when we’ve experienced them ourselves. By bringing IFS into our own healing and self-awareness, we can show up more authentically and deeply for our clients.
This workshop is designed to introduce and support the integration of IFS with those who are dedicated to both personal and professional development.
Overview of Workshop:
This experiential workshop will support therapists and helping professionals bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge of IFS and practical application, with a focus on how IFS can enhance self-awareness and therapeutic presence.
Objectives:
• Understand how IFS’s core concepts (Parts, Self, and System) translate into everyday therapeutic interactions.
• Discover how to recognize your own internal parts and how they show up in your life and practice.
• Practice using IFS to unblock personal resistance and enhance relational empathy.
• Explore how IFS can be used to cultivate greater self-care and emotional resilience in therapists.
Why Attend:
This workshop will help you make IFS a part of your everyday therapeutic toolkit, enhancing your personal growth while improving your awareness when working with others.
Workshop Overview:
This full-day workshop will allow participants to deepen their understanding of IFS by engaging in both theoretical discussions and experiential exercises. Participants will gain tools to apply IFS to their personal lives and therapeutic practices, with a focus on self-awareness, recognizing internal parts, enhancing empathy, and fostering self-care and emotional resilience.
Please note this workshop is a great launching pad for deciding whether to pursue certificated IFS training and for developing beginning skills with the model. This is NOT a training for working with clients. It’s a chance for you to explore the model experientially in order to work successfully with clients down the road.
